The History of

Brackley Baptist Church

1865 or 1970 or 1986 or 1992?

On 19th December 1865 a Baptist Chapel was opened in Brackley behind "The Three Tuns" public house one of the older buildings in Brackley built in the 15th century (until recently this was the site of the Wine Rack, on the Market Place).

Little is known of the life of this Baptist Chapel and by the mid 1870's it was under the oversight of Blisworth Baptist Church. The building which still exists later became a Brethren Meeting House and a Salvation Army Citadel before being converted into a house in the 1970's. It is not accessible to the public.

We would love to know more about it if you can help fill in the gaps!

This 1865 church is not related in any way to the current Baptist Church in Brackley which itself has a most unusual story of the early days after it was founded in 1970. The present Brackley Baptist Church was formerly known as the "Calvary Southern Baptist Church".
